Former presidential candidate in Yemen Faisal Bin Shamlan died on Friday night at his home in Aden, Yemen's commercial capital, after a long illness.
He was 75 years old.
He was laid to final rest early today with thousands of people led by leaders of the Joint Meeting Parties, an opposition coalition, attending the funeral.
Bin Shamlan suffered from a head tumor that sent him to India where he remained several months last year at hospital.
He returned from India to Aden two months ago. After his return, he left for Britain and went check-ups and returned ten days ago.
He ran for president in the 2006 presidential elections and won 22 percent of the votes. He was the candidate of the Joint Meeting Parties against president Saleh who won 77 percent of the votes.
Bin Shamlan held several key posts under Saleh's administration including the post of Minister of Oil and Minerals in 1994.
