Yemen Upholds its Last Rank in Gender Equality Yemen has come last for the third consecutive year in gender equality among 130 countries, according to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2008. Yemen continues to occupy the last position in the region as well as in the overall rankings, being the only country in the world to have closed less than 50 per cent of its gender gap. However, it made gains on economic participation, educational attainment and political empowerment this year. Yemen Oil Revenues up in Third Quarter The Central Bank report published earlier this week pointed out that Yemen has earned 3.8 billion dollars from oil revenues in the third quarter, an increase of 86 percent over last year. Yemen produced 35 million barrels of crude oil between July and September, an increase of 11 percent compared to the same period in 2007.Sources told Yemen Post that the average price of a barrel of crude oil was set at 112 dollars against an average of 66 dollars in the similar period. Germany Presents Emergency aid Flood Victims Germany has allocated 700,000 euros in emergency humanitarian aid to victims of floods in Yemen. 500,000 euros would be allocated to people who were internally displaced as a result of the natural disaster while the other 200,000 euros would be given for victims of the floods. |
