Yemen Receives more than 28,000 Refugees this Year According to UNHCR, more than 28,000 refugees, including 19,071 Somalis, have taken the dangerous sea journey to Yemen so far this year. During the same time last year, 16,000 people had made the crossing; therefore doubling the number of those crossing to Yemen this year. On September 11, 29 immigrants drowned after smugglers forced them to jump out of a crowded boat. Again on September 15, more than 50 people were feared to have drowned after a similar incident. Yemeni Religious Scholars Condemn U.S. Embassy Attack Association of Yemeni Religious Scholars condemned strongly the recent attack which targeted the U.S. Embassy in Sana'a on Wednesday. The association called on the Yemeni people to unify their efforts to face such terror acts, highlighting the role of security forces to thwart such acts. It also expressed condolence to families of the victims. Pakistani Drug Trafficker Executed in Sana’a At the Central Prison in Sana'a, the death penalty took place on the Pakistani drug trafficker Birkhan Afridibar Hussein, aged 50, according to the sentence issued against him by the Penal Court and approved by President of the Republic. The accused was arrested on January 22, 2004. |
