Customs Authority: Customs exemptions Should be Abandoned

Ali Al-Zabidi, Chairman of Customs Authority, has stated that customs exemptions constitute a focus for corruption and, therefore, should be abandoned for this leads to misuse of tax and customs fees. He added that the total customs exemptions the authority granted in 2007 reached around YR 33.3 billion, out of which YR 4 billion under temporary permission system.

Sana’a Old City to be Documented by Italians

A documentary film on the Yemeni heritage and the Old City of Sana’a is currently being prepared by an Italian film company and intends to be displayed in August. The Culture Ministry pointed out that the Ministry in collaboration with the Italian embassy would produce three more documentary films on other Yemeni cities.

Prehistoric Site Found in Al-Mahweet

French archaeologists discovered a site in Yemen that dates to the Paleolithic Age, one of the longest ages in pre-history and was noted as the time of the Neanderthal man and similar cultures. According to news sources, after it took two years to find the site, the team reported unearthing various stone age tools at the location in Al-Mahweet.

Throwing an Attempt to Smuggle Antiques outside the Country

Security services at International Sana’a Airport thwarted an attempt to smuggle a bronze statue by an Italian tourist who claimed that he had bought. The statue is a rare piece of a formed-woman standing with her  hands raised to her chest praying, as she holds something with her the right hand.
