Unknown gunmen assassinated two Yemeni officials in the southern port city of Aden on Saturday, the latest in a series of targeted killings since the city was retaken from the Houthi militants in mid-year.
Local officials said chief of the penal specialized court, which handles terror cases, judge Mohammed Mohsen Alwan, and two of his bodyguards were killed in the district of Mansoura.
And in a separate incident earlier, gunmen shot dead Gen. Al-Khadir, a senior security official at the interior ministry, in the district of Mualla, they said.
No arrests have been made in connection with the two crimes, they added.
Aden is facing huge security challenges including spread of weapons in civilian hands and militant groups.
Locals say militant groups including Al-Qaeda and ISIL have become active even though the Saudi-led coalition has deployed large troops to help the government restore stability and security in the temporary capital.
Meanwhile, the battles between the pro-government and Houthi forces are continuing in the provinces of Taiz, Dhali, Jawf, Marib and Baidha.
In Taiz, sources within the popular resistance said the battles continued Saturday at key warfronts in midtown and southern and northeastern parts.
The Houthi forces continued to shell populated areas and public facilities including hospitals killing and injuring several civilians, the sources said.
The Saudi-led coalition struck the Houthi forces in the conflict provinces in support of the pro-government forces, sources said.
