Unidentified gunmen shot dead a senior security official in Yemen's southern city of Aden on Sunday, in the first targeted killing since the city was retaken from the Houthi militants in mid-June.
Abdulhakim Al-Sunaidi, head of the Aden security operations, was shot in the district of Almansourah, a local official said.
The gunmen were on a motorbike when they committed the crime and ran away before the police arrived at the scene, the official added.
With support from the Saudi-led coalition, the government forces have lately retaken Aden and other southern cities after months of deadly battles with the Houthi militants.
However, the situation is still fragile as the provincial authorities are receiving further support from the coalitio to boost security in the south.
Hundreds of security and military chiefs have been killed, many by motorbike gunmen and bombings, in Yemen amid the ongoing unrest since 2011.
