At least 7 civilians were killed and nine others injured after Houthi militants fired rockets on populated areas in Yemen's Taiz city on Friday, local sources said.
The militants have been shelling residences and public facilities including hospitals in the city for weeks as the government forces with support from the popular resistance continued to make gains.
According to the sources, the Houthis seized the headquarters of the provincial military police after personnel joined the government forces.
The personnel handed military equipment to the government forces, that have been clashing with the Houthis for months, they added.
Moreover, the sources said the popular resistance fighters retook the provincial security headquarters and cleaned the nearby areas from all Houthis.
In the adjacent city of Ibb, locals said the militants have regained some districts including Al-Radmah which they had lost to the popular resistance in the past few days.
There were also clashes for some districts retaken from the militants including Hazm Al-Odein, they said, coinciding with reports the resistance liberated more areas from the militants today.
On the other hand, military sources said warships from the Saudi-led Arab coalition shelled Houthi positions in response to artillery attacks in the western city of Hodeida.
Fighter jets from the coalition have been bombing the Houthi forces and weapons since March.
