At least five suspected Al-Qaeda militants were killed after a US drone targeted their car in eastern Yemen early Wednesday, military sources said.
The drone operation occurred in Mukalla, Hadramout, which was seized by the Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula AQAP after the pro-Iran Houthi militants had ousted the government and seized the capital Sanaa months ago.
AQAP militants have been controlling Mukalla taking advantage of the civil war triggered by the Houthi takeover.
Moreover, it coincided with continuing battles between the government forces and the Houthi militants as well as Saudi-led airstrikes in cities including Taiz, Ibb, Shabwa, Ibb and Baidha.
Local sources in Saada, the stronghold of the Houthis, said the Arab military coalition targeted Houthi military camps and war positions in Saada and in the district of Arhab, north of the capital city of Sanaa.
The sources did not confirm any casualties.
The coalition has been striking the Houthi forces and weapons since March.
It has also been supporting the government forces during their battles with the militants.
Gains by the forces including retaking four southern cities in recent weeks were made with direct and intensified support from the coalition.
