U.N. resident coordinator Paolo Lembo on Sunday revealed the UN plans to organize a conference on the war in Yemen in September, a local news website reported.
The conference will seek to put pressure on the Yemeni parties so that they stop the war and then resume the political process and work on aid delivery to the people affected by the months-long armed conflict, Almasdar Online quoted Lembo as saying at a meeting with women leaders in the capital city of Sanaa.
The conference will be held in collaboration with cooperative politicians, civil society organizations, the World Bank and the European Union, the website reported.
The statement coincided with increasing calls for UN serious intervention to stop the war in the country as the government and agencies said that 80% of the population are in need of emergency aid.
Moreover, Lembo said the UN will implement programs to assess war damages through international teams that will visit Yemeni cities affected by the conflict, according to the website.
The meeting also brought on the humanitarian situation in the country with Lembo affirming the UN has delivered aid to people in accessible areas and that the conflict and other challenges have prevented aid deliveries to many other Yemenis.
At the meeting, the Yemeni women delegation submitted a document on the humanitarian situation and demanded UN support to empowering women during conflicts.
