The UN Security Council discussed on Monday the latest developments in Yemen at a time when the UN envoy Jamal Benomar is still meeting with factions in Sanaa to end the deadlock.
Benomar said he briefed the Security Council on the security and political developments as well as the human rights situation in the country and that he is contacting all factions in a bid to salvage the political process.
"There is a possibility to reach a deal based on the outcomes of the national dialog conference and the peace and national partnership agreement to go ahead with the political process," he said.
Benomar arrived in Sanaa after the Houthi coup on the transition president Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi and government.
In the past two days, he failed to bring together all factions as Houthis appeared stubborn.
Houthis have been besieging the residences if president, prime minister and several ministers in Sanaa as they are continuing to put pressure on other factions to meet their demands.
The militants have been expanding by force since Jy 2014. So far, they have seized nine cities including the capital and lately they seized the presidential compound and brigades of the elite forces.
