Gunmen stormed two banks in Yemen on Tuesday and robbed around $242.000, state media reported quoting a local source.
"The gunmen, around 25 with light and medium-sized weapons and on three cars, raided the state CAC Bank and private Tadhamon Bank at the same time in the Al-Shihr town, Hadramout," the source was quoted as saying.
"They killed one of the guards and stole $149.000 from the state bank and injured a guard and stole $93.000 from the other," the source said.
Earlier, the gunmen tried to raid the Post Office in the town but they failed after guards fired on them, state media said.
The raids occurred two days after gunmen stormed the Post Office in Mukalla, the largest city in the eastern governorate of Hadramout.
Al-Qaeda has been active in Hadramout for years. It has been responsible for many deadly operations including assassinations targeting military and security chiefs, personnel, checkpoints and installations.
This year and for the first time, its militants raided some banks in a move which analysts said was exposing the bankruptcy of terrorists because of tight measures on their financial resources.
