Officials in the Minister of Transportations office told the Yemen Post that the ministry is not confident that it will reach a deal with DP World after its major failing to run two container terminals in the strategic port of Aden, south of Yemen.
The official said that Yemen is not in a position to give DP more chances to keep the country proceeding in the wrong direction.
“Yemen has lost so much because of the wrong administrative and on ground policies of DP World,” said the official.
“We handed DP somewhat of a successful port and today its success is nowhere to be seen,” he added.
Yemen’s Supreme Anti Corruption Committee recommended that DP Worlds Yemen contract is cancelled due to claims of corruption.
“Everyday DP World was more in the picture, Yemen was losing and its port was dying. It seems that the actions were intentional by DP World,” the official concluded.
Protests continued for months in Aden calling the government to react in favor of the people and uproot corruption from the country.
Current Ministry of Transportation believe that DP World succeeded in taking over the Aden terminals after a side under the table agreement took place.
