Western embassies in Sana'a have taken tight measures around their compounds after al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) asked its militants to target foreign diplomats.
Western embassies called its citizens to be alert particularly after rallies attacked the US Embassy in Sana'a last Thursday in protest at the US-made anti-Islam film.
News reports stated on Sunday that the United States sent marines to Yemen with the aim of protecting its embassy in Sana'a, affirming that about 100 Marines arrived in Sana'a on Friday.Yemen's Interior Minister stated that the violence acts on Thursday led to the killing of four protesters and wounding of 48 others including ten soldiers, pointing out that 61 vehicles of the embassy were burnt and other 13 one were looted.
<Meanwhile, Yemen's parliament on Saturday demanded the expulsion of a platoon of Marines the Pentagon sent to the Yemeni capital Sana'a, rejecting any foreign military presence on the Yemeni soil under any pretext.
On Friday, the Pentagon said a force of Marines had arrived in Sana'a to bolster security at the embassy after the attack.
Pentagon spokesman George Little told reporters on Friday the United States has deployed a Marine anti-terrorism unit to Sana'a to help protect the American embassy in the face of angry demonstrations.
“This is partly as a response to events over the past two days at our embassy in Yemen but it’s also in part a precautionary measure,” he said.
