One person was killed and another seriously injured after an explosive device went off in Sanaa on Friday, amid increasing explosions and failed bombings in many cities in the republic of Yemen .
The explosion occurred in Al-Qadsya market not very far from the presidential palace and the authorities have declined to comment.
Just at around 6:18 pm while citizens were walking on the street leading to a qat and fruits mall, a huge explosion rocked the area.
The police rushed to the scene and prevented people from gathering telling them the bombing killed a man and injured a second.
Security has recently started to worsen in Sanaa and other main cities in Yemen after the army drove Al-Qaeda out of its strongholds in the south. Since their defeat in May, Al-Qaeda militants have claimed responsibility for deadly attacks in Sanaa and other cities targeting military and security chiefs, personnel, cadets and offices.
Also, the authorities have defused many bombs near key security and private installations in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, persistent political disagreements and army division have cast a cloud over the general situation at a time when the country is struggling to cope with a range of complicated crises including famine affecting half of the country’s population.
