A 37-year patient who lived cancer has thrown herself from on the rooftop of her family's three-storey building in Yemen's capital Sanaa, the interior ministry reported on Tuesday.
The woman died immediately after landing in the yard of the building in the Wahda district, it said.
Investigations revealed the mental condition of the woman, which had badly deteriorated, was to blame for the suicide, which brought the number of the people with cancer, who committed suicide during the first half of this year, to more than 20 people across the republic, the ministry reported.
The Yemeni authorities register more than 20.000 people as new cancer patients a year amid lack of funds and other challenges including lack of medications and qualified hospitals to treat the people with cancer in one of the poorest countries in the world.
The figure is not exact as officials said there is a shortfall with regard to registering all those who live with cancer in the country.
The number of those who die from this disease is unclear for many reasons including poverty, bad communications and others, officials said.
