Yemen, UNDP Ink Agreements on Human Rights, Biodiversity

Yemen and the UNDP signed on Tuesday two agreements on two projects; one for supporting human rights during the transitional period and the second for supporting biodiversity.
The agreements were signed at the planning and international cooperation ministry.
According to the first agreement, a national, independent body will be formed to monitor and defend human rights and develop the civil society's skills in this context as well as supporting the human rights ministry.
The project aims to address all challenges facing the human rights work at the moment at a time when Yemen is preparing for a comprehensive national dialogue, and to enable the civil society and concerned agencies to defend human rights in a better way in the country.
Under the $4.094 million, the UNDP and the UN high commissioner for human rights are committed to building permanent and independent bodies to monitor human rights, support non-governmental organizations and help the human rights ministry to accomplish its responsibilities perfectly.

The project aims to help Yemen meet its biodiversity obligations through drawing up suitable plans and reporting on the issue. The support mainly comes to back the Yemeni strategic plan on biodiversity 2011-2020.
