A republican decree was issued on Sunday appointing Abdulkadir Hilal as the mayor of the Secretariat Capital in Yemen, Saba agency reported.
Hilal, who is a member in the dialogue liaison committee and held minister and governor posts in the past, replaced Abdulrahman Al-Akwa.
Separately, a tribal mediation has released a republican guard commander who was taken as hostage by soldiers after suspension their salaries, informed sources told the Yemen Post.
Murad Al-Awbaly, commander of the 62nd republican guard brigade, was abducted late in June and his release occurred after the mediators promised to give the salaries of the soldiers suspended over three months, the sources said.
Tribal elders from Sanaa and MPs mediated the release of the commander whose abduction was about to trigger a crisis between his tribes and the tribes of the abductors. The tribes were reported to have traded abductions, but all have been released, according to the sources.
The soldiers were reported to have abducted Al-Awbaly after he suspended their salaries on the ground of backing the public revolution which erupted in early 2011.
