The Yemeni authorities arrested on Monday three Al-Qaeda suicide bombers in the capital Sana'a after foiling of three suicide bombings Al-Qaeda planned to carry out.
Security sources told Al-Khaleej Newspaper that the bombers plotted to carry out bombings in the Old Sana'a and Souq Bab Al-Yaman.
Security forces were deployed in the main streets of Sana'a and took tight security procedures around embassies, consulates and residencies of President Abdu Rabo Mansour Hadi and Prime Minister Mohammad Salem Basendwa.
Media sources said that militants of Ansar Al-Sharia, an Al-Qaeda-linked group, admitted, after being arrested, that al-Qaeda operatives infiltrated to Sana'a with the aim of carrying out suicide bombings.
The Defense Ministry directed all military commanders to be alert and wary in anticipation of imminent suicide bombings.
The Interior Ministry, for its part, cautioned against the infiltration of Al-Qaeda operatives to the capital Sana'a, pointing out that Al-Qaeda has plans to carry out a suicide bombing using car bombs.
In remarks to Al-Arabiya Net, a Yemeni security official said on Saturday that the security authorities have a plan to control al-Qaeda movements in five governorates around Abyan.
Al-Qaeda in Arab Peninsula (AQAP) issued on Friday a statement in which it demanded its members across the Yemeni governorates, in particular Hadahramout, Abyan and Shabwa, to be wary after US drones killed a number of the organization's leaders during the past months. It cautioned its operatives against using vehicles or cell phones, urging them to use internet under coded names. Motorcycles are largely used in some Yemeni cities.
