Farmers of Marib province confirmed that the citizens' losses are estimated to be hundreds of millions that are going even higher if the 'export mafia', as they said, continues damaging the national economy of the country.
A number of farmers in Marib province threatened to stop the supply of gas to the capital Sanaa in response to ignoring their repeated demands by the competent authorities for stopping potatoes import from various countries.
The residents said that importing the crop of potatoes is not included within the trade exchange between the neighboring countries and Yemen. They added that some officials were allowed to import potatoes for nothing but to damage the domestic agriculture there. The citizens appealed to the President to intervene to stop the import and find ways to export the local production being the first financier of agriculture and farmers.
It is noteworthy that the seeds' prices of potatoes for this year are the highest compared to the past years' prices in addition to the cold wave which damaged large tracts of potatoes farms leaving farmers behind waiting for the compensation by the government that imported the same crop coinciding ironically with their harvest, according to citizens.
Mareb farmers noted that they contacted with the secretary general of the province Local Council, social figures and members of the House of Representatives to meet their demands, saying that the option of stopping gas supply is still on the table in case there was no response.
