The security apparatuses, antiquities office and customs thwarted an attempt to smuggle historical manuscripts containing drawings, astronomer symbols and Arab fonts, at Sana'a International Airport on Thursday. Director of the Antiques Office said that the manuscripts were found with a passenger on his way to Turkey.
He pointed out that manuscripts in both public and private libraries are currently being inventoried by Culture Ministry aiming at preserving heritage and scientific treasures from extinction.
Authorities at Sana'a International Airport foiled attempts last year to smuggle more than 650 historical pieces, including manuscripts, coins, sculptures and other archaeological collections outside the country by Yemeni people, Arabs and also foreigners.
