Southern rebels closed down half of the ballot centers in the port city of Aden after they carried out attacks against some election centers.

Millions of Yemenis participate in the early presidential election in which Abdu Rabu Masnour Hadi will be selected as a successor of the outgoing President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The election campaign of Hadi was concluded on Monday by a joint rally arranged by the Joint Meeting Parties and the General people Congress.
Secretary-General of the Islah Party, the main Yemeni Islamist Party, said he is trusted on Hadi's ability to shoulder responsibilities of the new Yemeni state, stressing that he represents a balancing factor in the country.
Hadi is originally from the southern governorate of Abyan where Al-Qaeda took over some districts. He studied in Aden, Russia, Cairo and Britain.
Hadi along with ex-president Ali Nasser Mohammad fled the South Yemen in 1986 after thousands died in south after a violent struggle began in Aden between Ali Nasir's supporters and supporters of Abdu Al-Fatah Ismaeel.
In 1994 civil war, Hadi stood by the north regime led by Saleh and was appointed as the Defence Minister and then as a Vice President.
US ambassador to Yemen Gerald Feierstein said Hadi enjoys clear visions that are consistent with the US notions, pointing out that Hadi could be able to strengthen democracy and prosperity in Yemen.
