US National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism and President Barak Obama's assistant, John Brenan, said Yemen is the only country in the region to transfer power peacefully, and called the Yemenis to take pride in what they have achieved.
Brenan said, in a press conference held on Sunday at the US embassy in the Yemeni capital of Sana'a, that "Yemen is at the start of a new era, and that it has proved to be able of moving from the past to the future through the ballot boxes", (referring to Tuesday's polls).
He noted that he has delivered a message from US President to Vice President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi, the only candidate for the upcoming elections, in which Obama indicated that Yemen set an example of the peaceful transfer of power in the Middle East.
"My visit aimed to show the US administration's commitment towards Yemen," said Brenan, pointing out that the relationship between the two friendly countries is not based on leaders and followers, rather on Yemen's stability, security and unity.
The American official underlined the importance of the engagement in an inclusive national dialogue, which will take place after the presidential polls, showing his country's support to the Interim Government's efforts aimed to include the Houthi and Southern Movement in the dialogue.
"The inclusive national dialogue is not less significant than the early presidential election," argued Brenan.
Probably alluding to Tahran, he has condemned the exploitation of some external forces of Houthi fighters and their armed activities in the northern Yemeni province of Saddah.
"No state can tolerate armed militias," added Brenan, stressing the importance of restructuring the Yemeni army under a united national leadership.
With regards to counterterrorism area, he voiced his concerns over al-Qaeda activities in the southern provinces of the country, revealing that US provides Yemen with logistical, training, and consultations on fighting the global terrorist network.
Brenan would leave Sana'a for Saudi Arabia and then to some European courtiers, with whom he would review his visit's outcomes and discuss the transitional period required support from the international community.
