John Wilkes, the British ambassador to Yemen warned that sanctions could be taken against President Saleh and his regime if he continued to ignore the calls for his immediate resignation as enounced in the 2014 UN Security Council resolution adopted on October 21st.
Echoing French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe, the Ambassador stated that personal sanctions against Ali Abdullah Saleh were a possibility, mentioning travel ban, freezing of assets and so on…
He also added that it was time for Yemen to move on as the situation was getting worse by day as the country was being ravaged by "bands of thugs".
The ambassador stressed that Britain was mostly concerned over the degrading humanitarian situation in Yemen as it feared a repeat of a crisis similar to that of Somalia, saying that Yemenis had to pay the "price twice", "once because of the economic crisis and twice because of the disintegration of the state institutions."
