The U.S. and the EU have suggested a timeframe for Yemen's President Saleh to transfer power to his deputy in 30 days in the light of a recent GCC proposal for tackling the Yemeni crisis, sources familiar with the matter said on Saturday.
The U.S.-EU vision was submitted by the U.S. and EU envoys to Sana'a and called for reaching an agreement between President Saleh and the opposition under the Washington sponsorship on transferring power within a week after Saleh picks a new vice president.
The sources said that Saleh will be given immunity from prosecution and the vision also called for his son Ahmed, commander of the republican guard and his nephews Ammar, chief of the national security, and Yahya, commander of the central security, to quit and leave the country.
After Saleh picks a new vice president that was expected to be the prime minister of the caretaker government Mujawar, Saleh should submit his resignation to the House of Representatives in a month, the vision urged.
After the resignation, the new president will issue a decree forming an interim government led by the opposition; and to start the agreement between Saleh and the opposition, the opposition and the antigovernment protesters in the squares of change and freedom should end their sit-ins and protests.
The western vision also called for Saleh and Ali Muhsen, commander of the first armoured division, who defected from the army and announced support to the popular uprising calling for an immediate ouster of Saleh, to leave the country.
