Two Al-Qaeda suspects have been killed in an explosives-laden car that was destroyed by troops when the two tried to target a military convoy in south Yemen, a local official in Abyan said on Saturday.
The convoy was on its way to the Modya district including reinforcements to hunt Al-Qaeda suspects, and troops bombed the car before a suicide attack could happen, the source said.
Clashes erupted between the forces and militants after the two were killed, the source said, denying tanks and military vehicles were destroyed.
On Saturday, reports said suspected Al-Qaeda militants ambushed the reinforcement convoy killing two soldiers and injuring others as well as destroying two tanks and three vehicles.
Meanwhile, the authorities are continuing a massive hunt and large-scale operations against Al-Qaeda militants in southern and southeastern regions after they stepped up their attacks on security buildings, officers, patrols, vehicles and convoys.
