Two soldiers and a number of rebels have been killed and others injured when clashes erupted between the army and the Houhti Group in Barat district in Harf Sufyan, Amran.
Local sources were quoted by the News Yemen as saying that an exchange of gunfire between the two sides took place after a vehicle of the group overturned in the area.
Houthi followers then closed Saada-Sufyan road, triggering fierce clashes in which cannon missiles were used.
The clashes lasted for almost half an hour, according to the sources.
Commenting on the situation, a source at the Houthi Office said that soldiers ambushed a Houthi leader, an incident that prompted the fighting.
No government comments were available.
The source confirmed the death of a number of soldiers and Houthi fighters, with whom the government reached a ceasefire deal in February this year that ended a six-year war in the far north.
However, the source denied the closure of the road, saying it was blocked only during the fighting.
Since the ceasefire was brought into effect on February 11, the committees overseeing its implementation continue to report breaches by the group, with some committees sometimes suspending their works.
