Yemen assures its friends and brotherly states that it is able to tackle subversion and bring all saboteurs to justice, chairman of the Shoura Council said on Friday.
The rebellion in Saada is just a hopeless attempt by the Houthi insurgents, Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani said, as he affirmed that Yemen is strong enough to protect accomplishments made since 1962 and under the 1990 unity and can convince plotters and betrayers none can harm its security and stability and the people's interests.
Over 19 years since the unification of the north and south, Yemen has been building its democracy, he said, reiterating Yemen's commitment toward democracy, public freedom, human rights and peaceful succession of power through fair, direct and pluralism-based local, parliamentary and presidential elections.
Abdul Ghani's remarks were given at the end of the Rabat conference of the Association of Senates, Shoura and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World.
The Yemeni constitution enshrines the right of all the people to express their views through peaceful democratic means, but the Houthi rebels in the north insist on taking guns against the authorities, he said.
With lawbreaking the insurgents risk tough government decisions including eradicating them even within years, he added.
In his speech, Abdul Ghani also affirmed Yemen's firm stance supporting the Palestinian people and the establishment of their statehood.
He, furthermore, urged a more active role by the association to cope with the crises in the region, topped by the situations in Sudan's Darfur region and Somalia.
Hailing what the association has done since its establishment few years ago, he urged sustainable development and promoting the role of women in decision making be put on top of the association's priorities.
