UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh arrived on Saturday in the temporary capital, the southern port city of Aden, where he will meet with president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.
The meeting will focus on preparations for the second round of talks between the government and the Houthi militants.
The talks are expected to take place in Geneva in two weeks from now.
Cheikh's visit followed his talks with representatives of the Houthi group in Muscat.
Last month, the Yemeni factions failed to held talks brokered by the UN aimed at reaching a political deal to end the crisis and the eight-months conflict.
Both, the government and the Houthi group have demands that they want to be met before they go to the talks. And the demands were to blame for postponing the talks.
The government is demanding that the Houthis and their allies including the party of the former president accept to implement the UN Security Council's resolution 2216.
The resolution called for the Houthis to cede power to the legitimate government, withdraw from cities and return weapons they seized after ousting the government and come back to the political process.
Lately, the Houthi group sent representatives to Oman for preliminary talks after it received assurances from the UN its demands would be looked into.
The Houthis' demands include an end to the Saudi-led military intervention including a blockade on all Yemeni sea, land and air ports.
The military intervention was launched in late March in order to restore the legitimacy of the UN-backed transition government.
