The Sudanese troops who arrived lately in Yemen will help the Yemeni forces and the Saudi-led coalition to retake the provinces of Marib and Taiz from the Houthi militants, a spokesperson for the army said on Tuesday.
They are well-trained in guerrilla war and other combat tactics, he said, while revealing that more Sudanese ground troops are expected to be deployed to the country in the near future.
Moreover, he revealed that Egyptian and Moroccan troops will join the coalition's forces in Yemen.
In late March, the coalition launched a bombing campaign against the Houthi militants who ousted the government in late 2014 triggering a civil conflict.
So far, it has helped the Yemeni forces to retake most of southern regions from the militants.
Lately, it deployed thousands of troops and hundreds of tanks, helicopters and other equipment to drive the militants out of Marib.
In this oil-rich province, the battles have been raging for weeks.
Today, reports said the national and coalition forces have made gains but still unable to advance toward the capital Sanaa which is planned to be retaken after Marib and the nearby province of Jawf.
And in Taiz, the national forces are tightening the siege around the militants in the district of Waziyah, locals said.
Warships and fighter jets from the coalition are striking positions of the Houthis mostly on the outskirts of the city from where the militants are continuing to target populated areas, they added.
