Saudi Arabia plans to facilitate entry of Yemenis into it amid several-months war and blockade on all Yemeni sea, land and air ports.
The blockade was part of the Saudi-led military operation which was launched against the Houthi militants in late March following the ouster of the government of Yemen.
The Okaz newspaper quoted director of the Saudi passport authority Suleiman bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya as saying that his country has decided to consider the Al-Wadiah crossing with Yemen as a model crossing after those with other countries primarily through facilitating all visa measures.
"The plan will ensure facilities and accelerated measures for Yemenis especially humanitarian cases at this crossing," Al-Yahya told the paper while on a visit to the Al-Wadiah area.
He said the Saudi authorities have allowed Yemeni families stuck at the crossing to get into Saudi lands under direct orders from the Saudi King Salman.
"Those arriving at this crossing are being considered as guests of King Salman, crown prince and deputy crown prince who have ordered to take into account humanitarian and security issues while helping Yemenis enter the kingdom," he was quoted as saying.
Since March, Yemenis have been facing difficulties leaving and returning to their country because of the blockade on all sea, land and air ports of Yemen.
Owing to the war including clashes between the Saudi army and the Houthi militants, Saudi Arabia closed all crossings on the borders with Yemen.
The Al-Wadiah crossing, partly open, was closed when clashes expanded into Hadramout in June.
