The Yemeni forces with support from the Saudi-led coalition launched a fresh offensive against the Houthi militants and dissident forces loyal to the former president in Marib province on Sunday.
Local military sources said fierce battles broke out in west and north of the province and that fighter jets from the coalition struck positions of the Houthi militants killing and wounding tens of them and forcing others to flee.
Troops from the coalition participated in the battles and a few of them including a UAE soldier were killed, the sources said.
The coalition, which has been bombing the Houthis since March, has lately deployed thousands of troops and hundreds of tanks, armored cars, Apaches and other equipment in support of the Yemeni forces to retake Marib.
Today, it targeted Houthi forces and weapons in other cities including the capital Sanaa, Baidha, Shabwa and Taiz.
Separately, the International Committee of the Red Cross expressed deep concerns over the humanitarian situation in the country as the ongoing conflict is preventing aid agencies from helping millions of people in need of emergency aid.
Lately, the Red Cross suspended its activities in Yemen after two of its staff were killed and armed people stormed its offices in Aden and Taiz.
It appealed to the warring parties to take measures to guarantee the safety of aid workers so that relief aid reaches the affected people.
The several-months conflict has left 80% of Yemen's population in dire need of aid.
