The Yemeni forces backed by the Arab military coalition and the popular resistance retook Zinjbar, the capital of Abyan governorate in the south, after days of fierce battles with the Houthi militants, military sources said on Sunday.
The forces are now heading toward the town of Shuqrah, the second key hotbed of Houthis in Abyan, as they are continuing to comb Zinjbar, the sources said, adding that the Saudi-led coalition is providing direct support to the forces.
Fighter jets and attack helicopters from the coalition are conducting very helpful strikes against the Houthis during the battles, they elaborated.
On Saturday, UAE media said three UAE soldiers were killed while they were participating in the battles against the Houthis in Abyan.
So far, the forces have retaken the southern cities of Aden and Lahj from the Houthis since the Arab military intervention was launched in March.
In the meanwhile, the fighting between the popular resistance and the militants is continuing for the second day in Ibb governorate which has remained clam for months.
Well-informed sources said the popular resistance has driven the Houthis from three districts and they are seeking to retake all parts of Ibb.
Today, confrontations continued in other cities including Taiz, Baidha and Dhali.
The battles coincided with reports about talks between the Yemeni parties in the Omani capital of Muscat.
The Yemeni parties are seeking to find a solution to the months-long armed conflict which followed the ouster of the UN-backed transition government by the Houthi militants early this year.
