The UN on Monday urged the warring parties self-restraint and respect of a humanitarian ceasefire in Yemen as well as cooperation on aid delivery to people affected by the several-months conflict.
The five-day truce was announced by the Saudi-led coalition and took effect as from Sunday midnight.
It was the third fragile humanitarian pause of fighting since the coalition launched a bombing campaign against the Houthi militants in late March.
The previous two truces could not take a hold with aid not reaching most of the affected.
This time, the Houthi militants continued their battles during the first hours of the truce in a number of cities including Taiz, Marib and Lahj triggering a response from the government forces and airstrikes by the coalition, well-informed sources said.
More relief aid arrived today in Aden, the southern port city which was liberated from the Houthis more than a week ago.
According to the government and agencies, the armed conflict has left 80% of Yemen's population in need of emergency aid.
In the adjacent city of Lahj, sources within the popular resistance said the government forces retook some districts including Al-Musaimeer after fierce battles with the Houthis.
The government forces are so close from the Al-Anad military base which is expected to be retaken from the militants in coming days, the sources added.
In Taiz and Marib, the Houthis fired rockets against some areas killing and injuring civilians, locals sources said.
