The number of Yemenis affected by conflict who have now become in dire need for emergency aid has increased to 20 million, local administration and chairman of the high relief committee, Abdulraqeeb Fatah, said on Tuesday.
Yemen's total population are around 24 million.
In a statement to Alarabiya TV, Fatah accused the Houthi militants and forces loyal to the former president of preventing aid convoys from entering into Yemeni cities especially those witnessing ongoing fighting.
Lately, international organizations warned Yemen is facing a humanitarian catastrophe while calling for a new ceasefire.
Oxfam said the recent escalation left around around two thirds of the Yemeni people without drinking water.
The fighting has resulted in lacks of fuels and attacks on water facilities, it said, coinciding with a warning by the World Health Organization the country's healthcare system is on the verge of collapse due to lacks of life-saving medicines, fuels and other necessary supplies.
The battles between the pro-government and pro-Houthi forces have been continuing since the transition government was ousted in late 2014.
The battles were escalated after the Saudi-led military operation was launched against the Houthi militants in late March.
