The Arab coalition is poised to launch a third stage of the military operation against the Houthi militants in Yemen, the spokesperson for the coalition Ahmed Asiri said on Tuesday.
The new stage of airstrikes, probably the final, will target all military camps and weapon depots controlled by the Houthi militant group and the former president Saleh without exception.
Moreover, concentrated airstrikes will be conducted against headquarters and residences of Houthis and officials from the General People Congress, Saleh's party, Asiri said.
The Arab military operation was launched on March 26 against the Houthi militants who had ousted the transition president and government in September. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Sudan are participating in it.
During the first stage known as the decisive storm, fighter jets from the coalition carried out airstrikes on air bases, military brigades, war positions and weapon depots controlled by the Houthis.
After around four weeks, the second stage known as the hope renewal operation was launched.
This stage comprised of political, humanitarian and military components.
Politically, the coalition tried to revive the political process through easing the airstrikes and launching efforts to bring Yemeni factions around one table again. The UN sponsored the transition process in accordance with the Gulf Initiative for power transfer in Yemen during 2012-2014.
Early this year, it announced the collapse of the transition due to the post-Houthi takeover violence.
Militarily, airstrikes continued to target Houthi military camps, weapon depots and convoys in Yemeni cities.
Moreover, the coalition launched efforts to address the deteriorating humanitarian situation including a five-day ceasefire during May 12-17.
Ground fighting between pro-government and pro-Houthi forces have persisted during the first stages.
And the third stage comes as there are no prospects for peace or a deal to solve the crisis.
On Tuesday, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon affirmed the Yemen talks which were scheduled for May 28 in Geneva have been already postponed.
Moreover, the high revolutionary committee formed by the Houthi group following the ouster of the government appointed new Yemeni governors in a move which comes amid political and military Houthi escalation.
The new governors were named for the cities of Ibb, Sanaa, Rima, Marib, Jawf and Baidha.
