President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi has set conditions for the participation of Yemen's government in Geneva talks scheduled for May 28 including that the UN takes action over all UN resolutions on the transition process.
He said the government will not attend the talks except after the Houthis withdraw from cities, give up all weapons and adhere to the outcomes of the UN-sponsored national dialog conference in accordance with the latest UN Security Council Resolution No.2216, according to agencies.
The talks were called by the UN after the Houthi militant group had boycotted a Riyadh conference on Yemen which concluded on May 20.
The Riyadh conference was attended by representatives from all other factions.
It reiterated full support to the pro-government popular resistance which will be provided with weapons and funds to force the Houthis to withdraw from all cities seized after ousting the transition president and government.
Hadi's statement coincided with escalating airstrikes against the Houthis by the Saudi-led Arab coalition as well as confrontations between the militants and pro-government fighters in several cities including Saada, Taiz and Dhale.
Local sources said pro-government resistance fighters have been fighting the Houthis on the border between Saada, the Houthi stronghold, and Jawf in the past few days and they have already took control of key areas in Saada.
