A US drone lately killed a key leader from the Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula AQAP in Yemen, reports have said.
Nasr bin Ali Al-Anesi, who appeared in a videotape declaring AQAP's responsibility for the deadly attack on the French paper Charlie Hebdo in January, was killed along with several militants in April, according to the reports quoting data by US authorities.
The US is providing direct support to Yemen to fight Al-Qaeda including drone operations.
Last year, drones killed more than 100 AQAP leaders and militants in several parts of the country.
The reports come amid concerns Al-Qaeda is taking advantage of the escalating unrest to expand in Yemen.
Yemen has been experiencing escalating violence since the Houthi militants ousted the transition president and government in January.
In response to the coup, Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia have been conducting airstrikes against the Houthi militants.
Some countries and experts including those from the EU and the US think the airstrikes add to the unrest since they have proved to be imperfect solution to the worrying Yemen.
AQAP was founded by Saudi and Yemeni Al-Qaeda wings in 2009.
It is seen as the most dangerous branch of the global terrorist network of Al-Qaeda because of its responsibility for failed attacks on Western targets outside Yemen.
