The US is seeking to mediate a ceasefire in Yemen in order to deliver aid to millions of people who have been affected by violence, reports said on Saturday.
The US effort comes a day after the UN Security Council's members failed to agree on a pause of fighting to help the desperate civilians.
On Friday, Russia called for an emergency meeting by the Council to address the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
The meeting coincided with warnings of the catastrophic humanitarian situation amid weeks-long shortages of fuels, food and medicines.
The shortages blamed on Houthi violence have been deepened by a military operation by the Saudi-led coalition against the Houthi militants and dissident forces is continuing.
The operation was launched more than a month ago and included a blockade on the country's ports.
The blockade and escalating fighting between the militants and pro-government resistance has left the country in desperate need for fuels, food and medicines.
Lately, the world health organization warned there was an imminent collapse of the healthcare system after hospitals shut down amid fuel shortages and power outages and others were struggling to get life-saving medicines and materials.
Also, people especially in violence-stricken cities of Taiz, Aden and Dhale have been facing lacks of water and food.
Recently, violence in three and other cities including oil-rich Marib have escalated.
Pro-government resistance fighters advanced on all warfronts amid continued support by the Arab coalition. Fighter jets from the coalition have been targeting military brigades, weapon depots and positions of militants and dissident forces for more than a month.
The coalition has also airdropped weapons to the pro-government fighters.
