Suspected Al-Qaeda militants targeted a military base in eastern Yemeni kiting two soldiers and injuring five others, officials said on Monday.
The attack occurred in Abyan province where the army has been fighting Al-Qaeda since 2012 and was the latest in a spate of terrorist attacks on military and security targets in Southern and southeastern regions.
Last year, the Yemeni army launched an open war against Al-Qaeda militants. The US is providing direct support to the Yemeni forces including drone strikes which killed last year around 150 AQAP leaders and members.
Separately, fierce clashes erupted today between Houthi militants and local tribes in the central province of Baidha.
Sources said several Houthi militants were killed in the battles coinciding with reports that commander of the 139th brigade has handed weapons to Houthis.
Houthis declined to comment.
Houthis have been fighting tribes in Baidha since they took over the capital city of Sanaa in September.
Thousands of them have been killed and injured.
They carried out a coup against the transition president and government this past week putting the country in a complete constitutional vacuum.
