One more of Yemen's controversial federal regions has announced it no longer receives orders from the central government in the capital city of Sanaa after the transition government resigned on Houthi coup.
The Houthi militant group has been expanding by force seizing nine cities including the capital in a bid to force modification of the draft constitution and outcomes of the national dialog conference. Regions, yet to be officially approved, have started to act separately amid accusing Houthis of using force to rule alone and achieve their own interests at the expense of others'.
The Tahama region, whose capital is the western port city of Hodeida, said in a press release it is for Yemen to be a six-region federation and that it completely rejects the illegal Houthi power and Houthi use of force to rule or reject consensual outcomes of the national dialog conference.
"The Tahama region announces it joined the regions of Al-Janad, Saba, Hadramout and Aden which no longer receive orders from Sanaa and that it is part and parcel of Yemen formed from and ruled by all," the press release said.
The sixth region is Azal which includes Sanaa, Dhamar, Amran and Saada provinces.
Moreover, the statement held the Houthi militias responsible for chaos and deterioration in Yemen saying militias are seeking to rule by force and that is against the dialog's outcomes.
This past week, Houthis tightened their grip on power by seizing the presidential palace and brigades of the elite forces.
The Houthi acts come as the militants are seeking to modify the draft constitution and some outcomes of the dialog conference especially those concerning the shape of Yemeni federation.
The militants don't want a federation of six regions allegedly because that means dividing Yemen.
