The Supreme National Authority for Combating Corruption has referred senior Yemeni officials for investigation over switching parts of the Hodeida airport land into private properties.
The official agency Saba quoted a statement by the authority as saying on Tuesday the nine military and non-military officials had been involved in violating republican decrees and its decisions banning illegal constructions and calling for removing any existent constructions on the port.
The authorities in Hodeida accused the officials and soldiers from the Air Force of seizing thousands of kilometers of the port property.
"The officials illegally confiscated parts of the southwestern parts of port and built a street in what appeared to be a prelude to start building houses," the statement said, while adding that the officials also prevented the construction of a fence around the port under a presidential decree.
The authority urged the concerned authorities to preserve the port land with a fence and that state employees who confiscated or bought confiscated land plots within the port to submit their disclosures.
